Works well but slight improvement could be made. Jun 01, 2011

This test kit gives accurate results for testing water hardness. The one thing I didn't like so much was the requirement to use 20 drops of the calcium buffer each time you run the test. This is time consuming and adds to the frustration (at least in my case) of troubleshooting a water softener problem. There is an alternative method provided that uses only 10 drops but the math calculation changes. In other words: If you are just testing one time to check the water hardness, then the kit works fine, but if you need to repeatedly check to see if your water softener is working, then you could run out of the calcium buffer. When you test soft water with the kit, the results are striking: one drop of the Hardness Reagent will change the color from red to blue. When you test hard water, it might take 20 or more drops to change the color. All that said, it is a very good and accurate product.
