2You get what you pay for. Don't waste your money.  Nov 25, 2011 By D. Taban
I just moved to a house with a pool. After watching my pool man do the maintenance for a month, I decided to try it myself. Since I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle it, I ordered the cheapest kit. I figured why pay too much for equipment if I change my mind again and decide to leave it up to the pool man.

The skimmer is small, only good for getting things that are FLOATING. You won't be able to get anything from the bottom of the pool with this thing. You also have to keep dumping the contents after each catch so it doesn't go back into the pool.

The brush is OK I guess, I mean, its a brush.

The testing kit is very basic - test for only chlorine and PH (which are the two main things to check for) - and is good at doing that. But if you are going to kick the pool guy out, you need the test kit they use so you can check for all other things.

The vacuum is the worst - you literally have to pick it up and put it down on the spot to be cleaned. Pushing it will just cause the garbage/dirt to get tossed around. I think it has to do with the fact that the suction is centered and the brushes are too tight. Complete waste of plastic.

If you're serious about maintaining your pool, get the pro stuff (check the reviews on Amazon for each part you need). Otherwise, you're going to get a very bad intro to pool maintenance 101.

Good luck!

5Great starter set for new pool owners  May 27, 2009 By Skye R. Bischoff
This set comes with everything you need except the pool vacuum hose and an extension pole. You usually have to buy these items separately for all pool vacs, etc. Instructions for maintaining your pool abound on the internet as well as instructions to operate each piece if you are not sure how to. The whole thing is actually very simple once you put the items together and use them so I can understand the cost cutting measure of not including printed materials. I am a brand new pool owner myself and had no problems finding out how to operate everything. Seriously, if you can find amazon, order, and leave a review then surely you can take a moment to google how to maintain your pool or how to use the vacuum. That moment you take certainly saves a whole lot of trees being cut down and stuffed into swimline boxes. Also a lot of people take their initial water samples to a pool store for free analysis and most are very willing to help you out with what you don't know. All in all I am very pleased with the products included and the price.

1Missing parts  May 19, 2009 By Diana
This item appears to need a pool vacuum to go with it. There were no instructions included with the package, and I was unable to find where to purchase a vacuum that would work with this product.

4Kit Is Great Deal!  Jun 08, 2009 By xoxo "woodfairy"
When you consider most pool owners need all this kit includes and how much they cost individually this is the best deal. I've paid 20-30 just for one of the included pieces. Printed instructions are are not necessary since the items speak for themselves. You either insert a pole or attatch a hose.
