Thought I loved this pool cleaner... Aug 07, 2009
By David A. Hobt
"DAHobt"
A month after I received this unit, I wrote the following:
I just got the Nitro Wall Climber a few days ago to replace my Polaris 360. My pool has never looked so good! I would recommend this to anyone with an inground pool. It was delivered promptly, was easy to assemble and use, and in the first 3-hour cleaning cycle made my pool look better than I have ever seen it. It climbed all of the walls and even removed a small amount of yellow algae that had just started to show up on one wall.
It climbs all the way to the waterline, seems to know when to back up, pop a wheelie to get off of the drain, and cleans everything very well.
It does not climb stairs, but then neither did my Polaris, nor has any other that I have heard of, so as far as I am concerned this is as good as it gets!
I have now owned this cleaner for 1 1/2 years, with 6 months of that time in the winter, when it was used maybe 1 time a month. It quit working about 2 weeks back, and after digging all over (very little info about this cleaner, and the regional dealers who support it are far away and walk-in only) I found info that said that the pump motor was bad, so I paid the $200.00 for it, and when it came in it was easy to install. I dropped it in the pool and it cleaned for the full cycle, but did not finish the pool.I restarted the cycle and it just sat there. After looking it over and over I finally figured out that the drive motor is probably bad now. That is another $100.00, so after 18 months of relatively light usage to keep it running I have to spend over 1/2 of what I paid.
This is too bad, because it did clean well when it cleaned, but it ends up being awfully pricy.

Great Perfomance for the Price! Jul 06, 2009
By Pluggy68 I Have owned more expensive units costing 1000-1400. I took my chance on this one. At first the unit would not climb, then it just stopped working. I must say at first I was disappointed, so I returned it to the Manufacturer for a replacement. The new one worked fantastic! It climbs walls doesn't scrub the water line but will clean up to it. That is not a problem for me, as non of the other models did a great at this. It does a great job on the bottom and cleans the deep end as well as the shallow end. Will not climb stairs, but don't get hung up on that, none of the previous models did a good job at that either.
The unit is able to go up the steep grade in my pool were other models I have owned would fall back down to the deep end. In addition, it has a great feature: if it senses that it is stuck- like on the pickup drains on the bottom, it will pop a wheely and navigate out of its stuck position. The more expensive units I had owned would get stuck and I would have to pull them off the main suction drain.
The unit is light and easy to pickup out of the water. The filter design is very easy to remove and clean and a breeze to put back on. I found that the Dolphin was the most difficult and the hayward cartridge design was not as effective as the bag type.
Another plus is the entire unit is modular: meaning that you can buy a replacement motor or brush and replace them yourself. Once it goes out of warranty this feature will be a benifit.
I would recommend this unit to anyone that is looking for the best bang for the buck. plus it comes with a Caddy...
Buy It!

Works very well. No clogs, No jambs. Just cleans. Love it! Oct 11, 2009

They is a diamond amoungst a bunch of glass. I have had them all. Polaris, Krawley and other Hayward junk. Hayward should stick to pumps and filters. This one I thought would be no better. I have been running the Nitro for 12 months. I was wary as it looked to flimsy but it works like crazy. My pool has never been cleaned so well. I have some redwoods that the neighbors have that drop their very spikey needles and my own Texas Umbrellas (China Berry) which are in full fall with the long stick type of leaf stems. And it cleans the china berry's themselves that the squirrels cut in half and litter the pool with this time of year. All of it gets sucked in and devoured. Cleaning it out is easy and no clogs in the suck holes. No wimmpy jambs in the wings. No breaking of the mechanism. I am delighted. My only cavaets are they didn't use stainless on some of the inside screws which I replaced. The bag which I thought wasn't so tough is. No holes or damage after a year.

Not worth the money May 05, 2010
By Chris S. Greco Bought this to replace my aquabot. At less than half the price, I thought it would be worth it. Feels cheaply built of lightweight plastic but I could live with that if it wasnt for all the other issues.
Initially it seemed to work as advertised. After about a month, the power supply caught fire and melted the caddy, half the cord, the power supply and the side of my pool equipment box. I thought it was the outdoor outlet even though an electrician said it was fine.
So I contacted the company and they said to send the power supply back in and they would get back to me. It melted so completely, there wasnt anything to send. The replacement price of a power supply was only a few dollars less than an entire package so I bought another whole unit. I figured I'd have a spare cleaner.
Bad mistake. After siting in the garage during the winter, I started using the replacement cleaner. It lasted about a week and only cleaned one spot over an over again. Then the power supply failed. Apparently overheating and cracking the case so bad pieces fell off. Looks like the electrician was right, good outlet bad power supply. I went ahead and opened the case and found the motor housing seal had failed and it was full of water. Not a good thing for an eletrical device.
You get what you pay for and this cleaner is not worth it.

Did not work! Jul 01, 2011
By Mustang Sally Purchased at local pool store and was dead in the pool. Return policy (which I was not aware of at time of purchase!) was that returns were through the manufacturer. After contacting company, they sent me a UPS call tag- addressed to pool store. Pool store was not cooperative either. After fighting for over a month, finally got credit on my bank card.
Save yourself some serious hassle and avoid the Nitro Wall Climber!
