Problem with "on" clip Aug 03, 2010
By Richard S. Ward The first unit I bought the "on" clip wouldn't turn the power on. The off clip functioned fine.
Sent first unit back to Amazon as defective with no return problem.
Received the replacement unit and had the same problem.
Decided to try and fix the problem myself.
The "on" clip needed to be about a 1/8 of an inch lower to push the lever on. So I modified the "on" clip and it now works fine.
Manufacturer should check their tolerances.

The Macho Macho Man Timer Aug 31, 2010
By A. Ezzell I needed a timer for the lights in horses' covered pens. The electricians first installed a smaller, electronic model with a plastic case. That same day, we had a massive rainstorm, and the next day, the display had some condensation inside, and the display was messed up (although the lights still turned on & off). The electricians replaced it with this model, and I'm pretty sure I could turn the hose on it and it'd still be okay.
I've had to use pliers to loosen/tighten the pegs that turn the lights on & off, but that's not a big deal. It's simple to set the time and relatively simple to set the on/off periods.
And there's a lever that can be used to turn the lights on/off manually.
I feel much more comfortable having something like this exposed to the weather than the original electronic one.

Great for a Pool Timer Jun 04, 2008
By Kimberly R. Pymn I purchased this as a replacement for the timer I have on my pool filter. Easy to remove the punch outs and install. It is water tight, so no worries there. Saving a little green on "being green" by only running half the day and not 24/7.

trip levers Mar 03, 2012
By Ben M. Van Ord We have a around twenty Intermatic old style times switching off and on the community lights. I have found them to extremely reliable. When they finally fail it is because the timer motor gears are nylon and start slipping.
To set those timers you just spin the wheel around. So if you want to move the timer one hour back you must trip the load on and off because the wheel only turns in one direction. I have never found this to be a problem.
The new style timer is geared so low that you can not turn it at all. Instead you lift up the wheel which is divided into 24 hours and spin it above the on and off cams. This is easier to adjust and it does not require that the load be tripped on and off.
I installed one of the new style timers and it would turn on the lights but not turn them off. I requested a return exchange from Amazon and they immediately shipped a new timer. They are the best company for service that I have ever dealt with.
The replacement timer is exactly the same as the old one even the trip levers (pins)are exactly the same. So while I had the new timer installed I examined the old one.
The trip levers on the timer are so wide that they are hitting the inside of the on and off trip cams. The inside area of the trip cam is rounded and the trip lever contacts this round area before it does the flat area. This creates a bind that lifts the entire wheel up and allows it to jump over the trip cam.
The solution to this is to grind the trip lever back until it does not touch any thing except the flat part of the cam. Then there is no lifting force.
Unfortunately this leaves a bare metal surface that will rust. I just went ahead and altered the trip levers rather than return the second one also. Another reviewer mentioned need to "adjust the trip levers" but did not mention how.
When you get your timer---- set up the levers and slide them the wheel and lock them down-- then spin the wheel until they are just at the cam. Get a flash light and look. Is the tab on the lever only hitting the flat? If it looks like it will hit the round portion of the cam then you will likely have a problem either immediately or in the future. I had to remove about 1/16 inch of the flat trip flag on both the on and off trip levers. Note you will need to remove the timer works from the case to make the above check. All you do to remove it is the push in a tab on the upper left top and lit out. Of course you will also need to remove the safety shield over the connections.
These trip levers do not match this particular timer. Hopefully this was a problem on only a small run of these timers.
UPDATE 3/5/2012
My alteration of the trip levers did not work. I wrote the review before I installed them. I know that they were too wide because they were hitting the can near the center of the shaft---where there is no lever action at all. I took the trip levers out of another one of these timers and and put them in the timer that was not working. The timer works fine now. This problem of --not turning on and off is a problem with the trip levers. The clock keeps perfect time.
UPDATE 3/6/2012
I installed the trip pins that came with the new timer and and it works fine so the problem is solved and as usual Amazon service is excellent.

Won't turn on unless it is bumped... Oct 12, 2011
By Eric Miller Purchased this timer for our pool pump to replace a newly purchased GE timer that would work some of the time and some of the time it wouldn't. Spent many hours troubleshooting the GE timer and finally gave up and decided to buy the Intermatic T101R. Now I find that the T101R won't turn on unless the box is tapped. So now every morning somebody must go out and tap the box with their foot for the timer to turn on. Timer turns off all by itself but won't turn on. I like all other aspects about the timer. Just wish it would turn on like it is supposed to without somebody having to jog it back to life. I haven't had time to dig into the inner workings of the unit to see if something can be done about this problem. From reading another reveiw it seems there is a problem with the "ON" pawl.
