3Timer works as expected; a bit pricey for what it is  Aug 01, 2005 By Jonathan Shaw
I purchased this timer to control an air conditioner that I installed in my garage. The air conditioner has its own thermostat, but no day to day clock.

Installation could not have been any simpler. The timer simply plugs into the wall outlet, and then the air conditioner cord plugs into the side of the timer. The timer has a standard, 3-prong, 20A, 240V plug and outlet.

The timer works as expected -- the on and off times are set using the familiar plastic tabs that one often sees elsewhere (on landscape light transformers, water heater timers, etc.).

You may not want to use this plug in or next to a bedroom as the mechanical clock's ticking noise is loud.

For this price, I expected to be able to find a 7-day schedule timer (digital or mechanical), rather than this same-schedule-each-day unit. But I searched and did not find much of a selection among low cost, 240 volt timers.

3timers rarely work on modern window a/c units  Dec 29, 2007 By Boston Bookworm
Note that these appliance timers rarely work on modern window a/c units.
Most modern window a/c units have electronic controls (for example digital display of the temperature as oppose to just a dial).

When power is cut to these units they will NOT re-start when the power comes back on - unless you manually turn the unit on. This is the case if there is a ten minute power outage in your neighborhood or if an appliance timer cuts the power to the unit for several hours while you are at work.

Buyer beware .. before buying, at least test buy hitting the circuit breaker off, then on a few minutes later and see if your unit starts again.

4Not a standard three-prong plug  Jan 03, 2006 By Terence McArdle "Terry McArdle"
Seems to work fine.

Note that this is NOT for most household appliances. It uses the 220-type plug and socket, and will not work in household outlets and devices with standard lamp and small-appliance plugs.

The description probably needs to emphasize this more to avoid returns.

4240 Volt Timer, exactly as advertised.  Dec 12, 2011 By JackieTH
When an older 240-V electric heater in my garage stopped shutting off on it's own (bad thermostat perhaps), I decided the cheapest fix would be this $20 240-V appliance timer to arbitrarily run the unit a couple times a day when it's really cold here in Minnesota.

This is an Intermatic unit, and I probably have at least 8 120V Intermatic brand timers of various breeds here and there in drawers, so I didn't hesitate to buy this one, as they seem reliable as a brand name.

In any event, this is a 240V timer, so as a couple of other reviewers have errantly noted "not for USA use". Bull. It's just a standard 240 volt/20 amp type prong, being that it's clearly advertised for 240-volts. It works perfectly for my 20 amps/240 volts heater, yes here in Minnesota, USA.

This isn't a fancy digital display unit (which is good in my opinion). There are two on and two off pins that are moved around the timer dial, allowing you automatically turn it on/off twice a day. The pins are standard with their other units, so I was able to add a third on/off cycle or more by borrowing pins from a similar 120V timer. You can manually turn it on/off at any time.

If you need a timer for your 240V/20 amp appliance such as an air conditioner, or heater, don't hesitate.

360 Hz Appliance Timer  Dec 25, 2010 By Pablo "Pablo"
Delivery was on time. Product is as expected, and is operating well. Really needed a 50 Hz but couldn't find one, hence the actual time duration has to be adjusted by ~ 10% when setting a start time.
