Best value for a 1/48 P-38J/L Feb 05, 2011
By JDB As with most Revell kits - the price is lower because of volume produced. Do not let this fool you. This is a great kit. You can build a P-38J/L, P-38M or a P-38J Drop Snoot (not a pathfinder version).
Comes with 2x "Tree" Rocket launchers, 2x drop tanks, 2x 500lb bombs along with all the parts for all 3 versions.
Only 2 minor problems with this kit: 1. The tail is very heavy and requires weight in the nose or use the included stand on the tail 2. The propellers are both pitched for counterclockwise rotation - not accurate for the starboard engine
It is the best late P-38 kit on the market, don't let the 2 problems stop you - the weight is easy to fix and there are aftermarket props. The kit still looks good with the included props.

Lightning Oct 08, 2010
By Houstonmodeler This was a very fun model to build. I usually have a lot of trouble with making Revell models on account of fitting issues. This kit however was very fun to build. Parts fit well with little putty needed. If you are a halfway decent builder you can make this kit look awesome. The only tricky part i found was fitting the nose and guns through the holes.I chose to build the Marge version of this kit. I might buy another to build the Night version of this, which is Gloss black with night spying equipment. On a side note ,i did not go with the specified paint scheme of the superchargers. I painted them olive drab, copper fins, aluminum rings and flat black wires. Its a little more detailed but it really stands out and looks nice against the aluminum paint. For the body color i used Tamiyas bare aluminum spray.

P38 Sep 10, 2010
By nieuport17 Interesting model that can be build into 3 different variants. This model's cast must have been used many times because some parts don't fit as tight as I would like to--need fillers at multiple joints. Need a lot of weights in the engine section because this modle is back heavy (I end up using a lot of metal nuts). If no weights, it will tip back wards. The model end up pretty heavy. Over all, it was a fun project with good details.
